Hand-thrown beer mugs by ceramicist Paul Kuharic were designed for south Bend Brew Werks to allow drinkers to savor their beverage.

I’ve been doing ceramics for 15 years. I teach ceramics at Saint Joseph High School in South Bend, Indiana, and love my job. I work a lot on ceramics, both at my job and at home. My personal studio is at my home in downtown South Bend. I tend to make more sculptural work, but I am an excellent craftsman when making utilitarian objects like bowls and mugs.

I was approached by Brew Werks to make their mug club mugs, so I created a few differing styles, and together we came up with a form that would complement the beers—giving the mugs a bell form toward the top to allow for the beer to breathe and the aroma and taste to flourish.
